UAE: New Updates for Dubai Residents Abroad for Over 6 Months announced by The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security.
The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) has provided clarifications on the latest updates regarding the permit for UAE residents who stay outside the country for more than six months.
The ICP specifies that Dubai residents are not covered by this permit.
The permit, which took effect at the beginning of 2023, mandates individuals to present a valid reason for their extended stay abroad.
However, Dubai residents who hold Golden Visas are exempt from this requirement.

For individuals sponsored by a company, the application must be submitted through the sponsoring entity.
Those under personal sponsorship should have their sponsor handle the application. Self-sponsored individuals can apply for the permit using their personal account or through public service facilities, as stated by the ICP.
To obtain the permit, applicants must provide copies of their Emirates ID, passport, and a valid reason for the delay. The application must be made from outside the UAE, and it can be submitted once the remaining period of staying abroad exceeds 30 days.
If the application is approved, a fine of AED100 will be imposed for every 30 days or less spent outside the country. Violation fees will only be refunded if the application is rejected, and applicants must enter the UAE within 30 days after approval.
To apply for the permit, individuals can use the ICP’s smart services system or the “UAEICP” smartphone application, both of which are available for a fee of AED150. Customer Happiness centres or approved typing offices of the authority can also assist with the application process, according to the ICP.
