In the first half of 2025, Thailand recorded a surge in foreign investment from international film productions, injecting over 2.8 billion baht into the national economy. According to the Thailand Film Office under the Department of Tourism, this remarkable figure highlights the success of the government’s incentive policies, which offer rebates of up to 30% on qualifying production expenses.
Between January and June 2025, 279 international film productions were carried out across the country, generating significant economic benefits not only for the film industry but also for tourism and related sectors such as hospitality, food and beverage, transportation, and local service providers. As a result, authorities have revised their annual revenue forecast from 7.5 to 10 billion baht by the end of the year.
The top countries filming in Thailand were India, South Korea, Japan, and China, with popular shooting locations including Bangkok, Pathum Thani, and Chonburi. In addition to the direct financial impact, the growing number of productions offers valuable global exposure and promotes film-induced tourism, attracting visitors interested in exploring movie locations.
High-profile productions such as Jurassic World and the series White Lotus have recently chosen Thailand as a filming destination, reinforcing the country’s position as a leading cinematic hub in Asia. In response to this momentum, the Thai government is actively promoting the country as a preferred destination for international shoots, with the goal of attracting even greater levels of investment.
The incentive scheme has proven to be a strategic tool in drawing filmmakers and producers from around the world, delivering widespread economic benefits and supporting the sustainable development of local communities.
