Hot off the heels of our own seminar Next Stop Far East, held in Dubai last week, we at Kelmer have been inspired to focus more on the business opportunities in the Far Eastern Market. We thought it would be good to start with one of the largest exhibitions taking place in Singapore from 12-16 November, Singapore FinTech Festival (SFF) held at the Singapore Expo.
What is FinTech?
FinTech, a mix of ‘financial technology.’ It describes new tech that works at improving and automating the delivery and use of financial services.
FinTech uses customised software and equations on smart devices or computers to assist companies, business owners and consumers in managing financial operations, processes and lives.
FinTech has now stretched to include any technological innovation in — and automation of — the financial sector, including advances in financial literacy, advice and education. It also deals with restructuring of wealth management, lending and borrowing, retail banking, fundraising, money transfers/payments, investment management and more. FinTech also includes the development and use of crypto-currencies such as bitcoin.
What is the Singapore FinTech Festival?
SFF is the world’s largest FinTech festival and international ground for the FinTech community.
This annual festival is one of the largest FinTech events in the world, and takes place this week with over 250 global luminaries from central banks and regulatory agencies, financial institutions, venture capital firms participating and FinTech companies speaking on five separate stages at the FinTech Conference.
This year’s event has introduced, two exclusive features,
- MATCH (Meet ASEAN’s Talents and Champions) which finds and matches promising next-generation ASEAN enterprises with global private equity and venture capital. MATCH, expands the scope of the deal-making platform to sectors beyond FinTech. The matchmaking exercise for enterprises and investors, conducted from May to September 2018 generated more than 17,000 matches between the 380 participating investors and 840 enterprises. The 2018 MATCH exercise shows the development of both the supply of and demand for growth capital in ASEAN.
- The festival will also introduce a new component this year – the Global Investor Summit. The Summit targets investors and enterprises, and will feature themes such as capital raising strategies, building businesses across borders, investors’ outlook and India, China and ASEAN leaders’ dialogues.
This week in Singapore guarantees to be a hotbed for start-ups, entrepreneurs, investors, influencers, experts and leaders in the field. Attendees can expect insightful panel talks, illustrious speakers, and various networking opportunities.
